Zeta Gundam, which aired on Japanese TV in '84/85, introduced a new cast of characters and mecha following the original series. The titular robot, Zeta Gundam, played a central role in the show. One of its notable features was the ability to transform from robot mode to "Wave Rider" mode in an instant. Impressively, this Master Grade kit replicates this transformation without requiring any piece removal or replacement (except for the shield/nose piece, which matches the show).
This particular version of the 1/100 MG Zeta Gundam represents the test version seen at Anaheim Electronics during the project's early stages. With eight full-size runners and hundreds of multi-colored parts, this kit offers a substantial assembly experience while maintaining smooth construction. In addition to its transformation capability, the kit includes various extras. All the joints move, including the foldable antennas on its forehead. It comes with three sets of hands (fists, open palm, and posable), as well as the iconic "beam saber" sword, dual Vulcan cannon, beam rifle, and shield.
Bandai's MG (and HG) kits are designed for snap-together assembly, with parts molded in their respective colors, eliminating the need for painting. However, using cement and paints can enhance the final model's appearance. Many surface markings are pre-printed on the plastic parts, and the kit also provides replacement decals for those who prefer painting their work.
